How many people get the opportunity to slag the President right to his face — and have people laugh carefully at the ribbing. Steven Colbert does. In this clip on Google Video Steven Colbert is the guest speaker at the White House Press Dinner.

This has probably been linked to death, but I just ran across this Super Mario Bros. live-action video while reading CNET. For a talent show at a school some creative folks recreated Super Mario Bros. wonderfully.
The Endless Forest sounds like it’s an interesting timewaster. I haven’t actually played it, but if it’s on Metafilter you know it’s good.
Are these really the 10 best blog designs? I’d better start copying and pillaging.
ScanR: Turn your camera phone into a scanner. If this works well it’s an interesting idea.
Teens say they like vinyl records over CDs. I buy LP’s because at $15 they are affordable and I enjoy the action of playing a record on a turntable then watching the needle track toward the centre. It takes listening to music back to a more intimate activity.
I was introduced to the single by Saint Jude’s Infirmary titled ‘The Church of John Coltrane’ by a friend, and its haunting lingering progression through minor harmonies toward a crescendo still hits me square in the stomach every time I spin it. I’ve been trying to get my hands on the album which was released in the UK in February, but I have found no mention of it reaching North American shores yet. The album is titled ‘Happy Healthy Lucky Month’ and is listed at amazon.co.uk, however there is no way I’m paying for it in pounds (if it is even possible).

I purchased my first fitted hat today. 7 2/8″. The strange thing is the model of hat I bought came in different colours, and in some colours they listed it as 7 1/4″. Is this some sort of conspiracy?
Taking notes has always been a challenging prospect for most people, and with this advice from Lifehacker I think some may be better off.
I have had the opportunity to give this new album two complete listened and my initial thoughts are it is not as strong a record as his previous album We Were Born In A Flame. The previous album seems to have more straight forward rock tunes such as ‘Dead End’, ‘Hard Road’, ‘Don’t Walk Away Eileen’ and ‘This Is How I Live’. Chemical City is definitely a sophomore effort with a move toward more layered songs and gentle rock riffs. We’ll see how it grows.
Catch Sam Roberts at The Phoenix Concert Theater on Thursday April 27, 2006.
Update: I’ve been thinking as I’ve been able to give the record a few more spins over the week — it’s good it’s different. If it was another album of ‘Hard Road’ and ‘Don’t Walk Away Eileen’ what would be the point? He already wrote those songs.
