Police were called to the nightclub early this morning and say they found a 29-year-old man dead at the scene. A 42-year-old security guard, who was shot in the arm, is in a stable condition in hospital. Police are searching for a man wearing a balaclava and armed with a handgun who was last seen running towards North Beach. [via ABC News]

Update: When I went down to North Beach for a surf today the Novotel was taped off by the Police. It would seem the club in question was Splashes Nightclub. Think about that, a shooting at a bar no more than 200m from my apartment. Thankfully the bar is much to expensive for me or my friends to frequent.
Update 2: News.com.au has an article with some more info, but it’s still vague. It appears that the shooting took place on the street outside the club. The gunman missed on his first show and followed the guy into the club. Interesting, New.com first reported it was a shotgun blast to the head. Honestly, can you sensationalize anymore? This will be the last update on this topic.
this is so typical of the idiot serbian imports that have flocked to our shores in the last almost 2 decades – sitting around in cafe’s with their cappa tracksuits swinging the latest nokia’s off their hips as they enjoy 2 hour coffee breaks enjoying the fabulous views wollongong has to offer. They are amongst the biggest drug dealers in wollongong and I really can’t work out how the guy shot was supposedly a security guard with little education but drove around in a lexus 4wd and owned a million dollar pad on wollongong beach. if that’s not enough proof of my theory, what is?
Jocasta you are a true wanker! How can you define a whole cultural group based on a small sample (every cultural group will have it’s bottom dwellers and deros – hang out at Wollongong train station on a week day for a cross section). It is so narrow minded to paint a diverse group of people with the one brush. As for your ‘theory’, I really think you’ve failed to prove anything. No information has been released about the victim (including ethnic origins) and it has not been confirmed that this was a drug related matter (although, I concede, it’s likely it was).
Jocasta, you should perhaps read the article with a little more care. The security guard was an innocent bystander who tried to tackle the gunman as he fled after shooting the victim. And Christie I agree. You can’t judge an entire group of people based on the acts of a minority.
Jocasta, seems you know more about this shooting than you’re letting on, or you’ve got some mates with a pretty good imagination ( I say mates because with your pigeon holing of society, it’s obviously not your own)
Maybe a conversation with the cops would do you and us the world of good and maybe some time sitting in the station would show you that cross section of society walking through the doors that so obviously evades you on a regular basis.
In regards to the shooting, there’d have to be a hand full of people that know exactly who the gunman was. If someone has that much beef with someone, enough to chase them down the road toting a gun and balaclava, they’ve told people about their displeasure with the individual and likely made idle threats in relation to the person…maybe this was an idle threat that went too far. Having said that, if the gunman is willing to do what he did, I doubt people are going to come forward and potentially seal their own fate with information, would you? The man’s obviously a nut case.
Actually, I know the “victim’s” wife and I am quite aware that there are a lot of dero’s in wollongong, and I am also of serbian descent, so I feel I am well qualified in making the statements I have. I do agree with the sentiments of those of you who have responded that not all ‘imports’ are the same, but you must concede that there is a large majority who do fit the same description as Dragan. They are lazy, arrogant and love the high life, and the quickest and easiest way to achieve it is to be out there dealing and reaping in the rewards, it’s far easier then working 9-5. I feel most sorry for the two little innocent boys who have now been left without a father, and they will forever grow up with the knowledge that their father was scum and was killed in a horrific way because of it. I am sure that the police have many suspects and will have a hard time narrowing it down, because someone of Dragan’s status was very hated by alot of people for alot of reasons, and not all of them would have been drug related.
PS – Lucy, I’ve read the articles, and the victim himself was a security guard, although not at his workplace at the time of the shooting.

Im utterly disgusted to see this kind of a wannabe gangsta g-unot behaviour take place in our home town of wollongong.
I hope the cops find the bastards resposible, and i hope it serves as a warning to drug dealers.
On a side note, rumour has it that it was syd folks comin down to the club which is why the club shut in the first place because of bad promo.. NOW that the clubs shut.. i hope all will simmer down. Unless the person who was shot is a local, and someone he knew does somethin stupid to start a lame ass war.
The person shot was definitely a local – he lived in North Wollongong.

Regardless of your thoughts Dragan was a legend of a man…he will always be remembered for his huge heart and devotion to family and friends alike. Dragan’s love for his wife and sons will continue to live on in our thoughts and memories and his gorgeous boys will always remember his love and dedication to them, us as friends will make sure of this.

There are better ways to work out problems/hatered,what happened was wrong. In the end people will be jugded by god and the almighty will put them in place.
